Every year Enfilade! selects a theme for our games, events, and battles: Against All Odds!, Invasions! etc … they conjure the imagination and they encourage our game masters to demonstrate just what has happened throughout history – or could happen in an alternative history – within that motif. Here we vote for 2018’s theme!

THE WINNER: Rebels & Rebellions: Spartacus, the Jewish Revolt, Vlach-Bulgarian Rebellion, Scotland vs. England, the American Revolution, and so many civil wars. Someone, somewhere, draws a line in the sand and declares: ENOUGH!
Contraptions & Gimmicks: Games featuring odd contraptions and gimmick weapons: The Claw of Archimedes, The War Cart of Conrad Keyser, Wagon Forts, or Helepolis itself: strange weapons, or quirky technology ahead of its time.
Fall of an Empire: Battles that destroyed an Empire: The Sicilian Expedition, the Battles of Janping, Julu, Zama, Alesia, Philippi, or Edessa; empires fell and governments changed after these battles.
Hard Going: Games influenced by difficult or interesting terrain Teutoburg, Masada, Long Bridges, Agincourt, Morgarten, Passchendaele, the Bocage, Dien Bien Phu … battles influenced by supplies, terrain, and weather.
Propaganda & Music: Games based on music & or propaganda: Music has always been used to inspire & get people to follow along the leaders merry path set for the proles. “Hearts of Oak Star”, “Ca’ Ira”, “La Marseille”, “Star Spangled Banner”, “British Grenadiers”. Or how about Ballad of the Green Berets, or “Fortunate Son”, “Bad Moon Rising”, and “Born in the USA”. Heck, I’m sitting here thinking of the Kelly’s Heroes theme, or how about the theme music from Gladiator? You know the drill, now create the game!
Secondary Theaters: Battles from secondary theaters: Gallipoli or the Spanish Peninsula: major conflicts outside of the main theater of war. Pick a battle, perhaps small, perhaps large, that wasn’t part of the “main engagement”.
When Amateurs Fight: Battles in the early stages of war: Would-be empires struggling in the early era of warfare, strong nations woefully un-prepared in doctrine or technology …
